Hello Everyone! My name is Claire and I am a senior and an ESM major. I am graduating in May and this is my last GE course! I have a lot of favorite tv shows. My original favorites were Lost and The Vampire Diaries. Then I liked Chuck and Orange is the New Black and The Walking Dead and of course Game of Thrones and Outlander. I really like HBO and Starz shows. I am also a movie fanatic. I grew up watching movies with my mom. One of my favorites when I was younger was Big with Tom Hanks. Now I still love movies and really like series with a post apocalyptic theme. I think influencers are ridiculous and I do not follow any. If I was a mass media icon I think I would post about environmental things.

I think the theory that I connect most with is the Gender Studies and Queer theory. I like all the questions that the section brought up about how we are discovering new ideas socially and physically about gender and sexuality. I think these conversations are really important for influencers on new mediums to start having. I like the Reader-Response Criticism one. I like that there can be different frames when looking at text.

I Don’t really understand why it is sexist for a man to give a woman a bike. It’s not like he’s fat shaming her. I didn’t like the ad for other reasons including that she was talking to her phone the whole time about exercising. Maybe this is a gender stereotype that women need to record every time they exercise? I’m not sure. The Gin commercial advertisement was awkward. Obviously the girl in the middle was going through a break up but the friend on the let said she was safe right after she said the gin was smooth. What does gin being smooth have to do with her being in a safe space? I guess it’s sexist because she’s going through a breakup and is just getting drunk? I look forward to being able to identify cues for this in the future.
